MUSHROOM

Why it can't be "Silver" (Z)

The colors called Mushroom by their breeders seem to occur only in certain lines of ponies in the UK and Australia.  Because black-based miniature horses and ponies with the silver gene look much like those ponies, it was suspected that they could be black based and carrying the silver perhaps mixed with dun and/or cream.

HOWEVER....information has just come to our attention that the color occurs, perhaps exclusively, in red-based (ee) horses!

Just adding this page as of March 19, 2010!  Starting with this link to a farm full of "mushrooms" in England:  http://www.kellas-stud.co.uk/mystery.htm

OK, I've just started looking at the pedigrees and pictures, and am wondering if they could be what we call "dunalino".  Granted, they don't look like those we usually see, but they're in winter coat and perhaps a bit dusty.  First order of business:  have they been tested for the cream gene?
